The New York Red Bulls’ latest Brazilian addition is goalkeeper Carlos Coronel, who’s played for Red Bull Brazil’s Under-20, FC Liefering, Red Bull Salzburg and Philadelphia Union.
His stint in MLS with the Union happened in the first half of 2019. He went on to play four matches for the Union and finished with a 4-0-0 record with two shutouts.
When he arrived in Philly, Coronel gave a brief description of the type of goalkeeper he is. “I describe myself like an ambitious goalkeeper. I know I have potential after all the clubs I’ve been part of, and for all the work I’ve put in.
“I see myself with a lot of potential,” he added. “I’m a bit aggressive in goal, I try to help the team a lot in the aerial game, by training my hands and footwork, that’s the type of profile I want to build in my career.”
Coronel played over 6,000 minutes with FC Liefering in Austria’s 2. Liga, where he got 20 clean sheets in 67 games played.
The Brazilian goalkeeper most notably earned three appearances, including two starts, during the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League Group Stage.
