After his goal against Atlanta United, New York defender John Tolkin was named to the MLS Team of the Week.
His second goal across all competitions, and third of his MLS career, ended up being the game-winner at Atlanta.
His performances against Atlanta and Cincinnati were not just outliers for the 2022 season. Tolkin has had a breakout year for the Red Bulls.
He is currently leading MLS with 59 interceptions and leads New York with 41 tackles won.
Tolkin has been a key cog for the Red Bulls this season. His 2208 minutes played is second most among outfield players. He is one of eight different New York players to have been featured on the MLS Team of the Week so far this season.
This is the second time in his career that Tolkin has been featured in the MLS Team of the Week.
