HARRISON, N.J. (April 5, 2016) - New York Red Bulls II forward Junior Flemmings has been named to the USL Team of the Week for his one goal and assist performance against Louisville City FC.
The 20-year-old Jamaican youth international was making his debut for Red Bulls II.
The forward netted his only shot of the game in the 29th minute. Vincent Bezecourt started the play with a shot from distance, which was parried by Louisville goalkeeper Scott Goodwin. Flemmings followed the shot, beat his defender and buried the rebound at the near post from a tight angle to put New York ahead.
The 79th minutes, Flemmings made a run down the right flank and spotted Brandon Allen open at the top of the penalty box. He assisted the Homegrown Player with a perfect pass, which Allen slotted into the lower-right hand corner of the goal.
Red Bulls II returns to action this weekend on Sunday, April 10, at Red Bull Arena against Bethlehem Steel FC at 7:30 p.m. ET (TICKETS:NewYorkRedBulls.com/2/Tickets; WATCH: NewYorkRedBulls.com/Live).
USL Team of the Week
GK – Mark Ridgers, Orlando City B: Ridgers recorded a six-save shutout as 10-man Orlando held on to earn a 0-0 draw against the Charleston Battery on Friday night.
D – Hugh Roberts, Richmond Kickers: Roberts was both strong in the air and helped snuff out dangerous chances as the Kickers played to a 0-0 draw on the road in Wilmington.
D – Jacob VanCompernolle, Swope Park Rangers: VanCompernolle had a strong game at the heart of the Rangers’ defense, winning possession on the ground and in the air, as Swope Park took a victory on the road.
D – Harrison Delbridge, FC Cincinnati: Delbridge helped Cincinnati claim its first win in club history with a standout aerial performance that helped limit Bethlehem’s attack.
D – James Kiffe, Sacramento Republic FC: Kiffe was strong in defense, and pushed forward well down the left side regularly, which resulted in the side’s late winner through Cameron Iwasa.
M – Junior Flemmings, New York Red Bulls II: The young Jamaican played a pivotal role in New York’s victory against Louisville with a goal and assist at Slugger Field.
M – Vince Cicciarelli, Saint Louis FC: Cicciarelli scored a pair of late goals as Saint Louis recorded its first win of the season with a 3-1 victory against Orange County.
M – David Estrada, Charlotte Independence: Estrada had a strong two-way game that was capped by a fine goal to lead the Independence to a 2-1 victory against Harrisburg.
F – Jack McBean, LA Galaxy II:Los Dos’ captain had three goals in two games, scoring twice in a 3-0 win against Saint Louis, and the equalizer in a 3-3 draw with Real Monarchs SLC.
F – Jason Johnson, San Antonio FC: Johnson scored twice in the opening 10 minutes of SAFC’s inaugural contest to lead the side to a 3-0 win in Seattle.
F – Daniel Haber, Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2: Haber struck twice as WFC2 took its second win in as many games with a 3-1 victory against the Portland Timbers 2.
