Missing Pieces

When New York travels to Charlotte this weekend, they will do so without two key pieces to their starting lineup.

With Cristian Cásseres Jr. and Cory Burke away with their respective national teams, the Red Bulls will have to fill two important roles as they travel to a hostile road environment at Bank of America Stadium.

Strike First

New York had yet to hold a lead in an MLS league match until Dante Vanzeir’s 86th minute strike gave them a 2-1 lead over Columbus.

In three of their first four league matches, New York has given up the first goal, but against a Charlotte team that has given up eight goals through four matches, the opportunities should be there to get on the board first.

Confidence is Key

New York’s comeback victory against Columbus was lead by two players who were more than ready to get off the mark.

Luquinhas had not scored since June 2022, but put home the equalizing goal on Saturday. Dante Vanzeir bagged his first goal of his Red Bulls career in his third career appearance for the club.

If the two designated players can use these goals as a springboard for successful seasons, New York should be a dangerous team to defend.
