This will be the 91st overall meeting between New York and Columbus, with the Crew holding the advantage with a 40-36-14 mark. The Red Bulls have posted a 22-13-7 mark at home against the Crew, including a 2-0-1 mark at home in the playoffs, with both victories coming at Red Bull Arena in 2015 and 2018.
New York defeated Columbus, 1-0, in Game 1 on Tuesday, which saw midfielder Felipe Carballo score his first goal for the club. New York have posted a 3-1-1 mark in their last five home playoff matches.
Goalkeeper Carlos Coronel recorded eight saves in the Game 1 victory, which tied his single-game career best. This was set in an MLS regular season match against the New England Revolution on May 22, 2021. Coronel also tied Ryan Meara (2020) for second place in franchise history for the most saves in a single playoff match.
The Paraguayan international recorded his 55th win across all competitions for the club, which tied him with Tony Meola for second place in franchise history in wins across all competitions. Coronel has five career wins against Columbus.
Midfielder Lewis Morgan, who played his second career playoff match for the Red Bulls, tallied his first career MLS Cup Playoff assist and the ninth of the season across all competitions.
Morgan has recorded a goal contribution in back-to-back playoff matches, after scoring against F.C. Cincinnati in 2022 in his only playoff match at Red Bull Arena. The Scottish international has posted five goal contributions in his last four matches, including four assists.
Following Sunday’s match, the Red Bulls will see if they will have to play a Game 3 of their Round One series in the Audi 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs.
