Capping off a three-match week, a long road trip to Salt Lake City ended in a 3-1 loss for the New York Red Bulls.
Real Salt Lake did not waste any time getting on the scoreboard, with Diego Luna scoring in the second minute of the match. The first half ended 1-0, but Luna struck again in the 53rd minute to double the advantage.
A glimmer of hope came through a Frankie Amaya goal in the 80th minute, but was quickly cancelled out through a Jefferson Savarino goal in the 81st minute. It was Amaya's fourth goal in five matches dating back to June 25 against Atlanta.
After a 3-1 defeat, New York now enters Leagues Cup play. The first match of the inaugural tournament will come on June 22 at Red Bull Arena against the New England Revolution.
