The New York Red Bulls are unbeaten at home in 10 matches in 2024, following their 2-2 draw against D.C. United.

New York claims the Atlantic Cup, with a victory and a draw, versus D.C. this season.

D.C. United grabbed the first goal in the match after forward Jacob Murrell played midfielder Jared Stroud into New York’s penalty area and he placed it in the bottom left corner.

New York found the equalizer in the 25th minute, when forward Elias Manoel stepped up and converted the penalty kick sending the goalkeeper to the left and placing it in the right-hand side.

D.C. United grabbed the lead in the fourth minute of first half stoppage time, when defender Pedro Santos struck a curling ball on a free-kick over the wall and into the top corner of New York’s net.

The Red Bulls equalized the match for the second time, when defender Kyle Duncan played a cross into D.C. United’s box and midfielder Cameron Harper fired a right-footed shot into the bottom corner.

"To be honest, only the last 15 minutes, this was good," Head Coach Sandro Schwarz said. "Then it was good energy, a clear structure, clean passes, and then we find our spaces and then we had some chances. Especially from outside these cross moments, we scored the second goal. For sure we are very disappointed that we lost these two points today."

Harper scored his fifth MLS goal of the season and the ninth of his MLS career. The midfielder has scored a goal in back-to-back matches, and he has recorded five goals in his last eight MLS appearances. Harper has recorded three goals against D.C. United in six career appearances across all competitions.

Duncan tallied his first assist of the season and the 16th of his MLS career. The Brooklyn, N.Y. native has now tallied 16 assists across all competitions, which is the most by a defender in franchise history.

Manoel scored his fifth MLS goal of the season and the 10th of his career with New York. The forward has scored in back-to-back matches, and it was his first-career penalty kick goal.

"A little deflating, a little disappointing," Sean Nealis said. "I think we all could’ve had a little better performance. Early on we got punched in the mouth and it was tough to claw back. We saw last year that all these points matter so I think we must change focus, head into Philly, and get our first win there in four or five years."

New York have extended their home unbeaten streak to 13 matches across all competitions, which is now tied for the second-longest in franchise history. This is the fifth time in franchise history that a team has had an unbeaten streak of 10+ matches at home in a single season (2005, 2012, 2014, and 2016).

"We’ve shown we’re resilient at times this year," Nealis said. "I think a lot of times we’ve gone down this year, whether it was in Houston or in Montreal last week or even tonight, we’ve clawed back. And that’s kind of one positive, but for the course of the game we must be better."

New York will travel to Chester, P.A. to battle Philadelphia Union on Saturday, July 6 at Subaru Park. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET with coverage on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV in English and Spanish, and New York Red Bulls Radio in English, NewYorkRedBulls.com, and the New York Red Bulls app.
