The New York Red Bulls came home with a point from the road after a 1-1 draw against Orlando City SC on Saturday night.
Lewis Morgan continued his blistering-hot start, converting from the penalty spot to tie the MLS record for goals in March with six on the month.
"He’s a very important player for us," Head Coach Sandro Schwarz said. "With his intelligence on the field to find the right space in good moments, to find the right timing for deep runs, was good. He played today very clearly in some moments and that is what we need. We are very happy about his spot now, about his attitude, and also about his performance because off the field he is a great guy, great person, and very helpful for all of us."
Morgan, making his 100th appearance in the league, is now 7-for-7 from the spot in MLS regular season play.
Morgan’s six goals through six matches is the third-most by a Red Bulls player through the club’s first six matches of the season. Thierry Henry and Kenny Cooper both had seven goals scored in 2012 at this point in the season.
Orlando got the benefit of an own goal in the 89th minute to draw even.
"The spirit, the energy, was top today," Schwarz said. "We are a little bit angry about the results when you concede, especially at the end, but most of the time, it's a good performance."
Schwarz said the club has a chance to go up by two goals at moments, but let those opportunities slip by.
"I'm very proud of the team, of their fighting spirit, of their mentality. It's not so easy to play here, especially after a 4-0 top match against Miami," Schwarz said. "We were able to give everything today for the three points and we had very good moments to score the second goal."
Following the draw, New York remain on the road to battle FC Cincinnati at TQL Stadium on Saturday, April 6. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV in English and Spanish and New York Red Bulls Radio in English via TuneIn, the New York Red Bulls app and NewYorkRedBulls.com.
The Red Bulls have earned 11 points through their first six matches of the season, which is tied for the fifth-most in club history through the club’s first six matches of the season. New York have earned a result on the road in seven of their last eight MLS regular season road matches.
