The New York Red Bulls and Vancouver Whitecaps FC battled to a 1-1 draw at Red Bull Arena on Saturday night.
The Whitecaps got on the board early, with Brian White scoring for VWFC.
"Today, after 20 minutes was not good in the first half, and this is what we have to analyze and we have to improve very quick," Head Coach Sandro Schwarz said. "In some moments to have this consequence to play forward, to play forward very quick, and some moments to have more deep runs to create more situations in the box, in the opponent's box."
Lewis Morgan leveled the match for the Red Bulls off an Emil Forsberg corner kick in the second half.
Morgan’s goal was his seventh of the season and the 21st MLS goal of his career with New York. The Scot has now scored 28 career goals in MLS play. Morgan has recorded five goals in his last six matches. The winger scored his fifth goal of the season and the 12th goal of his career at Red Bull Arena.
Forsberg’s assist on the Morgan goal was his third of the MLS season. The Swedish International has now tallied two goals and three assists in his last six MLS matches.
"I think we’re playing really good football," Forsberg said. "It’s just irritating that we don’t get the wins."
The Red Bulls are currently on a seven-match unbeaten streak at Red Bull Arena across all competitions. New York is also on a six-match regular season unbeaten streak, which is the most in a single season for the club since 2021, which ran from Spetember 17 to October 9.
"I think we were the better team overall," Forsberg said. "We kept the ball and we kept creating chances. We came out, playing a fantastic second half, scored a goal and then we get a red card. Of course it changed the game. I mean, it's hard. We wanted to win today and I think we were on a good path but sometimes mistakes happen. We have to keep looking forward. Keep evolving. It's irritating because I think we could have won today and we didn't."
The 2024 New York Red Bulls became the ninth team in franchise history to go unbeaten in their first four home matches to open a season.
New York go back on the road to face off against Inter Miami CF on Saturday, May 4 at Chase Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV in English and Spanish and New York Red Bulls Radio in English via TuneIn, the New York Red Bulls app and NewYorkRedBulls.com.
