HARRISON, N.J. (September 24, 2016) – New York Red Bulls defeated Montreal Impact at Red Bull Arena, 1-0, and clinched a spot in the Audi 2016 MLS Cup Playoffs.
Daniel Royer’s first career MLS goal in the second half proved to be the game winner.
The victory improves New York to 13-9-9 on the season with 48 points and boosts the club into first place of the Eastern Conference on goal differential. Also tied with the Red Bulls on points is Toronto FC and New York City FC.
The win also extends the club’s franchise record unbeaten streak to 13 games. The club has not lost a game since July 3 against NYCFC.
The Red Bulls found the game-winning goal in the 60th minute. Chris Duvall’s cross from the right flank found Royer in the box, who redirected the shot into the back of the net.
The Red Bulls travel to Guatemala to close out Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League group play with a match against Antigua GFC on Tuesday, September 27. The club’s next MLS match will be on Saturday, October 1 versus Philadelphia Union at Red Bull Arena. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
