The New York Red Bulls and Toronto FC battled to a scoreless draw after 90 minutes on Saturday night.

TFC went on to win the penalty kick shootout to earn the extra point in Leagues Cup play.

"We are disappointed about the ending especially in penalty shootout, but I think we had chances in 90 minutes to win and in the last moment was a lucky moment for us, and then Toronto had a big chance for sure," Head Coach Sandro Schwarz said.

Ryan Meara earned his fourth shutout of the season and his 21st for the club across all competitions. Meara earned his 66th start across all competitions for New York, which ties him for fifth place in franchise history for most starts by a goalkeeper across all competitions.

The Yonkers, N.Y. native has recorded his four shutouts in seven matches played this season.

Julian Hall made his first career start for the New York Red Bulls in tonight’s match.

New York extended their home unbeaten streak across all competitions to 16 matches, which is tied for the longest streak in franchise history (2016).

Sean Nealis made his 146th career appearance for New York across all competitions, which ties him with Kemar Lawrence for sixth place in franchise history for most appearances by a defender.

New York will conclude Leagues Cup group stage play with a match against Pachuca on Tuesday, July 30 at Red Bull Arena.

"We have now one point and I said this directly in in the locker room two messages," Schwarz said. "We are not the first team which was losing in the penalty and I'm sure we will be not the last one. The second message is we have everything in our hands. So, it's very clear the situation of what you say against Pachuca. This is what we have to prepare now. We have to win. If we want to come in the knockout stage, this is clear and this is what we have to prepare now."

Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV in English and Spanish and New York Red Bulls Radio in English via the New York Red Bulls app and NewYorkRedBulls.com.
