ROCHESTER, N.Y. (April 26, 2015) – New York Red Bulls II suffered its second consecutive loss this on Sunday against Rochester Rhinos, 2-0. Alex Dixon opened the scoring for Rochester in the 40th minute off a save from Santiago Castano and clinched the victory in the 68th minute when Jonny Mendoza slid in the second goal.

The first half opened as a midfield battle, and a physical one too. Both Michael Da Fonte and Rochester forward Colin Rolfe needed treatment and new numberless jerseys because of cuts they picked up during play. The first chance came from the Rhinos in the 17th minute. As the home side’s attack poured forward, Pat McMahon himself in some space on the right side and blasted a shot from 10-yards out which was parried out of bounds by Santiago Castano.

The best chance for Red Bulls II came in the 31st minute on a free-kick. Derrick Etienne hit a driven, curling ball into the box, but NYRB II was unable to get a head on the ball and after bouncing around in a dangerous area, the ball was cleared away.

The Rhinos broke the deadlock in the 40th minute on a goal that began with a turnover in the Red Bulls II end. Andrew Jean-Baptiste received the ball and was put under heavy pressure from Rochester. The Rhinos forced a turnover and the ball fell to Tyler Rudy just outside of the box. Rudy hit a curling ball on-goal and Castano made a diving save, but the ball deflected towards Alex Dixon. Dixon smashed his chance on the volley into the back of the net for the opening goal of the match.

Red Bulls II emerged from the locker room inspired to find a goal and applied early pressure to Rochester. Daniel Bedoya gained possession on the left side and cut inwards in the final third. He rocketed a shot towards goal, but his shot caught the wrong side of the crossbar and deflected out of bounds.

Rochester forced a turnover in the midfield which quickly turned into a dangerous counter-attack in the 68th minute. Jonny Mendoza was picked out in space on the left side and charged into the penalty box alone. Castano charged forward, but Mendoza hit a low shot past the goalkeeper to double the Rhinos’ advantage.

Juan Sebastian Sanchez nearly put Red Bulls II on the board in the 88th minute when he nearly connected with a cross in the six-yard box, but the ball was a sent in a little too early and Red Bulls II fell to Rochester, 2-0.
