HARRISON, N.J. (July 17, 2024) – The New York Red Bulls have added NYRB II defender Omar Valencia on a short-term agreement to replace an Olympics call-up for tonight’s match against CF Montréal, the club announced today.
Valencia, 20, has made 31 appearances for NYRB II over his three seasons with the club. The defender has made 11 appearances this season with one assist, which he recorded in a 3-2 win over FC Cincinnati 2 on March 28.
The defender was the only MLS NEXT Pro player this season to be called in for Copa America, as he was called in by the Panama National Team. He made one appearance during the tournament playing against Colombia on July 6. He is the first active MLS NEXT Pro player to play in Copa America.
The defender will be available for the Red Bulls’ regular season match today against CF Montreal at 7:30 p.m. ET. The match will be held at Red Bull Arena with coverage on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV and New York Red Bulls Radio in English via NewYorkRedBulls.com and the New York Red Bulls app.
