The New York Red Bulls completed the transfer of Chilean international Marcelo Morales from Universidad de Chile for an undisclosed transfer fee. Morales will sign a three-year MLS contract through 2027 with an option for 2028, pending receipt of his P-1 visa and ITC.
“Marcelo is a quality left fullback and left wingback that will be a great addition to our organization,” said Sporting Director Julian de Guzman. “He will provide a lot to our backline, and we cannot wait for him to join us and begin working with our coaching staff.”
Morales, 21, joins New York after spending the last five seasons with Universidad de Chile. He has made 110 professional appearances for the club, where he has scored two goals and tallied 16 assists. Morales made his professional debut against Universidad de Concepcion on October 29, 2020, while he was the age of 17. He also helped Universidad de Chile secure their sixth Copa Chile title this past season.
The San Miguel, Chile native has played for Universidad de Chile since he joined their academy in 2011 at the age of eight. Morales has spent 13 years with his childhood club before joining New York.
“Marcelo is a talented, young left wingback that has a bright future ahead of him,” said Head Coach Sandro Schwarz. “He is a skillful player that will continue to help us strength our backline.”
Morales has featured for Chile Youth National Teams, including the U-20’s and U-23’s. He has made eight appearances for both teams and made two appearances at the South American U-20 Championship in 2023. Morales has made two appearances for the Chile National Team. He made his senior national team debut on October 11,2024, against Brazil in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match, where he played 25 minutes off the bench.
