HARRISON, N.J. (January 20, 2023) – The New York Red Bulls have been drawn into the same group as Atlético San Luis and the New England Revolution for the 2023 Leagues Cup, the league announced today.
The 2023 Leagues Cup will consist of 47 teams total as the winner of each league will automatically advance to the Round of 32, each team will play two group stage matches and the top two from each group will advance to the knockout-rounds, which will be single-elimination. The winner of Leagues Cup 2023 will automatically qualify directly to the Round of 16 of the CONCACAF Champions League, while the runner-up and the winner of the third-place match will qualify for the CONCACAF Champions League. The tournament will run from July 21, 2023, to August 19, 2023.
Atlético San Luis was founded in 2013 and was most recently promoted to Liga MX in 2019. They finished in 13th place of the 2022-2023 Apertura with 18 points. Their highest finish in La Liga was in 2021, where they finished 10th place in the 2021-2022 Clausura. While the New England Revolution finished 10th in the Eastern Conference last season and New York have posted a 34-40-20 record against New England across all competitions. The Red Bulls have also recorded a 26-12-10 mark against the Revolution at Red Bull Arena.
