HARRISON, N.J. (June 13, 2023) – The New York Red Bulls have named Zach Prince as an Assistant Coach, the club announced. Prince has been New Mexico United’s Head Coach for the last two seasons.
"First I would like to thank New Mexico United, especially Peter Trevisani for being supportive of this move for Zach," Head Coach Troy Lesesne said. "Pete’s someone that always tries to create positive outcomes for anyone in his club and this is a testament to his commitment to that ideology."
Prince, 35, joins New York from New Mexico United in USL Championship, where he has been since 2018. Prince served as an assistant coach under current Head Coach Troy Lesesne from 2019 to 2021. Following Lesesne’s departure, Prince served as Head Coach and Technical director of the club since 2021. During his tenure at New Mexico United, he led the club to a 25-19-22 mark and helped New Mexico qualify for the USL Championship playoffs in 2022. In 2022, he led the club to their highest points total, most goals scored, and highest goal differential in club history.
"Zach is someone that I’m very close with and we have a good understanding how one another work," Lesesne said. "He helped me build New Mexico United from the very beginning in 2018. The experience and success he’s had as a head coach since I left is only going to strengthen our staff here in New York. I’m very excited to have the opportunity to work with a coach of his ability once again."
Prior to New Mexico, Prince played for the Charleston Battery from 2010 to 2016, where he made 153 appearances and scored 11 goals across all competitions. He won the USL Championship Final with Charleston Battery during the 2011-2012 season. Prince played collegiate soccer at College of Charleston from 2006 to 2009.
"First, I would like to thank New York Red Bulls and Troy for this opportunity," said Prince. "I’m thrilled to join such a hardworking and decisive club and I cannot wait to get started."
