New York Red Bulls Re-Sign Tim Parker

Long Island Native Inks Deal to Remain with New York

HARRISON, N.J. (December 12, 2018) – The New York Red Bulls have signed defender Tim Parker to a multi-year MLS contract using Targeted Allocation Money, the club announced today. Parker, a Long Island native, was an integral part of the Red Bulls’ historic 2018 season. The center back solidified a backline that allowed 33 goals in 34 regular season games en route to the 2018 Supporters’ Shield with league-record points (71) and wins (22).

Parker, 25, was acquired at the beginning of the season in a trade with Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Parker joined the team in Tijuana, where he made his first appearance as a Red Bull in the 2-0 win over Xolos in the Concacaf Champions League. He appeared in 38 games across all competitions. Parker scored his first of two goals as a Red Bull in a 2-0 win over Atlanta on September 30, and also chipped in two assists.

“We knew when we acquired Tim that he would be a big piece of our team,” said Red Bulls Sporting Director Denis Hamlett. “Signing him beyond this year was always part of our plan, and we are excited to get this done. Tim is one of the top center backs in MLS and we look forward to continued success in the years to come.”

Parker’s play earned him a U.S. Men’s National Team call up in June, earning his first cap as a substitute against Ireland and his first start days later, when the USMNT faced France before Les Bleus departed for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

"Having known Tim for a long time, I'm thrilled for him to be a Red Bull for years to come,” said Red Bulls head coach Chris Armas. “I'm equally excited for our team and organization that we have solidified the middle of our defense. It's clear that Tim changed our backline this season and was a big part of us being the best defensive team in the league."

The Oyster Bay, Long Island native was drafted by the Whitecaps 13th overall in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft after playing four seasons at St. John’s University. Parker led the Red Storm to three consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament and the 2011 Big East Title alongside Red Bulls teammate Connor Lade.

"Growing up in New York, it was always a dream of mine to be able to play professionally in front of my family and friends," said Tim Parker. "I’m very thankful to the coaching staff, Denis and the club for allowing me to continue doing so. I will continue to work hard for the club so we can strive for more success and ultimately the MLS Cup. Thank you to everyone who helped me along the way, I’m looking forward to getting to work."
