HARRISON, N.J. (November 30, 2023) – New York Red Bulls defender Dylan Nealis has accepted a one-year contract through the 2024 season, the club announced today.
“We are very excited to keep Dylan with the club,” said Head of Sport Jochen Schneider. “We have seen a lot from Dylan over the last two seasons. He made a big step forward in his development over the last year – on and off the pitch. We are happy to keep consistency within our backline.”
Nealis, 25, has been with New York for the two seasons after joining the club via trade from Nashville SC in 2022. The Massapequa, N.Y. native made 19 appearances this season, including 10 starts. Nealis was a part of five MLS shutouts for New York this year. In 2022, Nealis made 28 appearances and totaled 1,800 minutes played and tallied three assists, which is a career high. He scored his first professional goal in the U.S. Open Cup against Charlotte FC in the Round of 16 on May 25, 2022.
The defender has made 70 career MLS appearances and has tallied four assists. Nealis was drafted No. 3 overall in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft by Inter Miami CF. He made his MLS debut on March 7, 2020, against D.C. United. Prior to MLS, Nealis was a captain for two years at Georgetown University and led them to win the 2019 NCAA College Cup title. He won the Big East Defensive Player of the Year twice in 2018 and 2019.
