New Jersey Native Signs New Deal with Hometown Club
HARRISON, N.J. (April 27, 2018) - The New York Red Bulls have signed Homegrown midfielder Sean Davis to a new MLS contract, the club announced today.
Davis, 25, has been an integral part of the Red Bulls since his Homegrown deal began in 2015. The Holmdel, New Jersey, native has appeared in 89 matches and started 59 across all competitions. Davis has seen action in all four major competitions, recording six goals and 11 assists. He had his best statistical season last year, starting in 21 of 27 matches with two goals and four assists.
“We are all very pleased to make this announcement,” said Red Bulls Sporting Director Denis Hamlett. “Sean has grown tremendously as a player and a person in his time here and earned this contract.”
Coming through the Red Bulls system, Davis was part of the Red Bulls U-23 team that captured the NPSL Championship in 2014. He capped off the season as a starter in the championship match and assisted the game-winning goal. Davis also spent two seasons with the Red Bulls U-18s, starting 50 matches, which included a team-best 31 starts in his second season.
“We’re excited to have Sean here long term,” said Red Bulls Head Coach Jesse Marsch. “Sean represents everything that is great about our club, an academy product that has become a major part of our team and represents us well. We know he is going to be a big part of our team moving forward.”
Davis was a four-year standout at Duke University, succeeding both on and off the field. On the pitch, he was named the 2014 ACC Midfielder of the Year and placed on both the 2014 All-ACC first team and All-ACC Second team twice. Off the pitch, he was a three-time All-ACC Academic team and placed to the ACC-Academic Honor Roll three times.
“I’m happy to continue my career with an organization that has helped me grow into the person and player I am today,” said Davis. “This is a great opportunity to thank family, friends, teammates, coaches and fans for all their support over the years. I’d also like to thank all of the New York Red Bull employees for the hard work they do behind the scenes. I’m proud to be a part of this club.”
