HARRISON, N.J. (April 10, 2019) - The New York Red Bulls U-23’s first round opponent in the 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup has been revealed, U.S. Soccer announced today. New York Red Bulls U-23’s will face NPSL Side, FC Motown on Tuesday, May 7 at the Red Bulls Training Facility. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m. and will be live-tweeted from the Red Bulls Academy Twitter (@RedBullsAcademy).
New York secured their qualification for this year’s tournament by finishing in the top 10 in USL League Two with a total of 31 points.
This year’s winning team will receive $300,000, a berth in the 2020 Concacaf Champions League and have its name engraved on the historic Dewar Challenge Trophy. The runner-up will earn $100,000, while the team that advances furthest from each lower division will take home a $25,000 cash prize.
This will be the second year in a row that the U-23’s will face FC Motown in the first round of the tournament. FC Motown advanced in last year’s matchup with a 2-1 victory.
New York’s First team will enter the competition on June 12, along with all the other MLS clubs, in the fourth round of the tournament.
