HANOVER, N.J. (May 25, 2016) – The New York Red Bulls U-23 lost 2-1 in a hard fought game on Wednesday night against the Baltimore Bohemians.

The Red Bulls controlled the opening 45 minutes, but could not put one past Bohemians goalkeeper Chris Fenner. Both keepers had their backlines very organized in the opening half, which ended 0-0.

The pace picked up in the second half when Baltimore Midfielder Malcolm Harris played a through ball over the top to striker Jamie Merriam while the Red Bulls were pressing high up the field. Merriam went one-on-one with Red Bulls keeper Eric Klenofsky and slotted the ball in the bottom corner.

Eleven minutes later, Red Bulls U-23 responded with a goal to level the match, 1-1. Second half substitute Sevag Kherlopian jumped on a loose ball in the box that was played in from the right side by Jared Stroud. Stroud’s low cross found its way to the feet of Kherlopian who wasted no time putting it in the back of the net.

The goals came in a flurry as Merriam scored his second of the game just two minutes later to give Baltimore a 2-1 lead, on a cross from the right flank by midfielder Cormac Noel.

Baltimore's Kevin Fallet received two yellow cards in the 83rd and 85th minute, reducing the Bohemians to 10-men down the stretch, but the visitors held on for the road win.

The Red Bulls U-23 return to action on Saturday, May 28, when they travel to Reading, PA, to take on Reading United at 7 p.m.
