RBNY Academy Update: November 11 | Red Bulls split against Baltimore Armour and BW Gottschee

The New York Red Bulls Academy had four teams in action last weekend while the U-14s had off after the U-14 USSDA Showcase. The Red Bulls U-18 and U-16 headed to Maryland to take on Baltimore Armour while the Red Bulls U-12 Blue and White welcomed BW Gottschee.


Baltimore Armour (0) vs. New York Red Bulls U-18 (7)

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (November 8, 2015) – New York Red Bulls U-18 got off to a quick start when they scored in 12 seconds. A Kyle Perno long ball forward from the kickoff bounced inside the penalty area. Kyle Casey was quick to capitalize, getting forward and heading the ball over the advancing Baltimore goalkeeper.


Casey was involved in the second goal when he was taken down by the Baltimore goalkeeper for a penalty. Jared Gilbey stepped up to convert for his fourth goal of the season. Casey remained involved in the Red Bulls’ early attacking and assisted the third goal when he laid the ball off for Kevin O’Toole. O’Toole rifled a shot into the roof of the net for New York’s third goal in the 25th minute.


Jared Gilbey scored his fifth goal of the season in the 27th minute from a Kyle Perno cross. Perno, who was utilized as a left back and made numerous runs forward, linked up with Gilbey who finished with a lunging volley to give the Red Bulls a 4-0 lead going into the break.


Perno scored from a free kick in 66th minute after Jeanpaul Marin was fouled 25-yards from the Baltimore goal. It was an excellent low-driven shot extended the Red Bulls lead to five until Samad Bouthong made it six off a cross from Pierre Reedy in the 67th minute. Marin then concluded the scoring in the 90th minute after another assist by Reedy. 


“From the start of the game I saw it in the teams eyes that we were locked in,” Man of the Match Kyle Perno. “We proved it in the opening minute with a very strong start and didn’t look back from there. No matter how the opponent looks on paper we treat every game the same, from the opening whistle we look to impose our style of play and make sure the game is on our terms which we did well today.”


The Red Bulls return to play at home next weekend against local MLS rivals Philadelphia Union on Saturday November 14 at 12 p.m.

Baltimore Armour (2) vs. New York Red Bulls U-16 (0)

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (November 8, 2015) – The New York Red Bulls U-16 lost its first game of the Development Academy season to Baltimore Armour, 2-0.

The Red Bulls U-16s traveled to Baltimore for the second straight weekend this time to play Baltimore Armour. New York came out dominant from the start, but were unable to break down the Baltimore defense.


Baltimore took advantage of their first opportunity when the Red Bulls goalkeeper couldn't hang on to an initial shot. Baltimore followed up on the rebound and scored to take the lead. New York pressed, but could not find the scoring touch. Baltimore scored on a counter-attack to double the lead, 2-0. The Red Bulls outshot Baltimore 18-4, but were unable to score.


New York Red Bulls U-12 - Blue (2) vs. BW Gottshchee - Blue (1)

HANOVER, N.J. (November 7, 2015) – The New York Red Bulls U-12 Blue managed the comeback win, 2-1. Despite controlling much of the game, the Red Bulls had difficulty getting in rhythm and gave BW Gottschee with their first goal of the match from a misplaced pass from the goalkeeper.


The Red Bulls fought back to even the score off a set piece corner before the break. New York continued to control the match in the second half although neither team created many threatening chances. The Red Bulls were able to finally capitalize off another corner kick to complete the comeback and seal the win.

New York Red Bulls U-12 - White (3) vs. BW Gottschee - White (6)

HANOVER, N.J. (November 8, 2015) – The New York Red Bulls U-12 White dropped their third straight game at home on Saturday against BW Gottschee White. The Red Bulls White started the game creating numerous chances against a well-organized and competitive Gottschee side. However, the Red Bulls found themselves down a goal early against the run of play off a quick counter. Although, the Red Bulls fought to keep the game close, BW Gottschee proved to be too much to handle on the day.
