All levels of the Red Bulls Academy were in action last weekend, with the Red Bulls U-14 in North Carolina for the U-14 USSDA Showcase. Red Bulls U-18 and U-16 travelled to Maryland to take on Bethesda-Olney, while the U-12s went north to Port Washington, N.Y., where they took on Albertson SC.

Bethesda-Olney (1) vs. New York Red Bulls U-18 (5)

ROCKVILLE, Md. (October 31, 2015) – The New York Red Bulls U-18s extended their unbeaten streak to five matches despite being reduced to 10-men with a win against Bethesda-Olney, 5-1.

Bethesda opened the scoring midway through the first half after a decisive counter-attack from a Red Bulls corner, however, New York responded quickly. Barry Sharifi had his shot closed down only for the ball to bounce to Brian Saramago who finished on the turn to level the match, 1-1.

The second goal came just before halftime quick thinking on a Red Bulls corner kick. Kevin O’Toole made a late run and received the ball from Callum Johnson. He served the ball into the six-yard box for Cristian Martinez, who finished the go-ahead goal.

Saramago gave the Red Bulls a two-goal cushion just after the hour mark when he was put through by Jared Gilbey to grab his second goal of the game.

The Red Bulls then went down to 10-men when Noah Powder was dismissed for receiving his second yellow card of the match in the 74th minute.

The Red Bulls had to defend a wave of attacks from Bethesda with Wojciech Gajda making a number of key saves in a pivotal moment of the game.

A solo effort from Ryan Mingachos sealed the three points for the Red Bulls. Mingachos received the ball inside his own half against the touchline from Sharifi. Mingachos made a 60-yard solo run, completed with a composed finish over the charging goalkeeper from the corner of the Bethesda six-yard box.

Saramago concluded the scoring with another solo effort. The forward picked up a loose clearance deep inside his own half and powered his way past the Bethesda center back before finishing for his hat-trick and Red Bulls’ fifth and final goal of the game.

“Bethesda away is always one of the toughest fixtures on the schedule,” Man of the Match Wojciech Gajda said. “Today we were unlucky to concede first. However, the team showed resilience and went on to win 5-1. It was an overall good team performance.”

The Red Bulls U-18s are on the road again next weekend on Sunday, Nov. 8 at 12 p.m. against Baltimore Armour.
