All levels of the New York Red Bulls Academy were active this weekend with three separate opponents. The U-18s, U-16s and U-14s took on local rivals Players Development Academy, the U-13s faced Cedar Stars, and the U-12s travelled to Connecticut where they played Oakwood SC. In total, the Red Bulls Academy finished the weekend unbeaten in five of six matches.
The Red Bulls U-16s also returned from Toronto last weekend from the first round of the Generations adidas Cup fall qualifiers. The U-16s, who will complete the qualifying round in February, finished atop their group, tied on points with hosts Toronto FC.
New York Red Bulls U-18 (5) vs. Players Development Academy (0)
SOMERSET, N.J. (October 17, 2015) – New York Red Bulls U-18s defeated local rivals PDA in the Atlantic Division of U.S. Development Academy, 5-0.
Ryan Mingachos netted his first goal of the season with a powerful strike from the edge of the area after good hold up play and lay off by Brian Saramago. The Red Bulls then produced their best second half of the season with three goals in a nine minute span.
Pierre Reedy scored the Red Bulls second goal in the 63rd minute after a powerful run and cross from Noah Powder. Callum Johnson then scored his first goal of the season four minutes later after winning the ball centrally with a tackle before setting himself up to shoot from just outside the PDA penalty area.
Powder added the fourth Red Bulls goal, his first of the season, in 71st minute after he was fouled on the edge of the area. Powder took the free kick and curled the ball over the wall and into the roof of the net.
Jared Gilbey concluded the scoring in 89th minute when he combined with Barry Sharifi on the edge of the area before finishing from a tight angle.
The team defended well throughout the contest was rewarded with a shutout.
“Big players step up in big games,” Man of the Match Noah Powder said. “As individuals we can’t achieve much, but as a team we can reach new limits.”

New York Red Bulls U-16 (2) vs. Players Development Academy (0)
SOMERSET, N.J. (October 17, 2015) – The Red Bulls U-16s defeated Players Development Academy, 2-0, to remain undefeated in U.S. Soccer Development Academy league play. Despite outshooting PDA 12-0 in the first half, the Red Bulls were unable to break the deadlock until the second half. Zach Ryan converted a penalty kick in the 65th minute and Carlos Alvarado scored 10 minutes later to clinch the victory for New York. Goalkeeper Matt Goodman and the back line put in a strong performance to maintain the U-16s’ third consecutive regular season clean sheet.

New York Red Bulls U-14 (1) vs. Players Development Academy (2)
SOMERSET, N.J. (October 17, 2015) – The Red Bulls U-14s lost their first game of the season on the road at Players Development Academy, 2-1.
In the first half both teams created scoring opportunities, but entered halftime scoreless. PDA took the lead in the 42nd minute when a blast from 25-yards found the top left corner of the goal. The Red Bulls controlled more of the game when midfield substitutes Danny Ramm and Danny Jara entered the match, and they had an immediate impact on the game. Minutes after they entered, the Red Bulls equalized when Aziel Jackson put forward Scotty Taylor in on goal and slotted the ball into the lower right hand corner of the goal in the 64th minute.
As the game entered its closing minutes, PDA found the game-winning goal in the 78th minute when the Red Bulls failed to clear a corner kick.
“We struggled today in getting into a rhythm, especially in the first half,” Man of the Match Lucas Santos said. “We played better in the second half of the game and created more chances and found a good equalizer after falling behind. However, PDA played a very good game and found the winner in the closing minutes. We hope to learn from this game and improve for next week.”

The Red Bulls U-13s won, 6-1, against the local Cedar Stars. Amir Daley opened the scoring in the 11th minute on a corner kick from John Michael Tolkin. New York never looked back and stayed focused and saw five different goal scorers by the end of the match.

Five players from the 2003/04/05 age group also captured the inaugural Red Bull 3v3 tournament, held outside Red Bull Arena before the First Team game between the New York Red Bulls and Philadelphia Unioin on Sunday afternoon. The team comprised of Luciano Sanchez, James Cartier, Jack Krongold, Andes Lazo and Adam Havens finished off the rest of the competition outside on the street, winning 7-6 in the final against a very competitive team from Brooklyn, N.Y.
New York Red Bulls U-12 - Blue (2) vs. Oakwood SC - Blue (2)
PORTLAND, Conn. (October 17, 2015) – The New York Red Bulls U-12 Blue traveled to Portland, Conn., in a rematch against Oakwood SC. The Red Bulls went down early conceding two goals in the first six minutes of play.
The Red Bulls managed to pull a goal back and cut Oakwood’s lead in half just before the half, 2-1. Much like the first half, the Red Bulls continued to create good scoring opportunities and made it difficult for Oakwood to get out of their own end. Their efforts were rewarded when New York scored the equalizer in the 63rd minute.

New York Red Bulls U-12 - White (2) vs. Oakwood SC - White (2)
PORTLAND, Conn. (October 17, 2015) – The New York Red Bulls U-12 White came from behind to tie Oakwood SC White, 2-2. After taking the early lead, the Red Bulls couldn’t manage to find a rhythm and Oakwood capitalized with two unanswered goals on either side halftime.
The Red Bulls applied more pressure and were able to create a few chances against an organized Oakwood team. New York managed to level the score late in the second half and continued their undefeated run with a 2-2 draw.
