HARRISON, N.J. (May 14, 2019) – New York Red Bulls U-23’s will travel to face Memphis 901 FC on Wednesday, May 15 at AutoZone Soccer Park in the second round of the 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Kick-off is set for 8 p.m. ET and can be seen live on ESPN+.
NYRB U-23's advanced to the second round after defeating F.C. Motown in penalty kicks, 5-4, in their first-round matchup. Midfielder Jeciel Cedeno scored the go-ahead goal in the 110th minute of action, but F.C. Motown’s Maximiliano Garcia scored to level the match in the 119th minute to force a penalty kick shootout. Midfielder Salvatore Esposito scored the game winning penalty kick.
Memphis 901 FC is playing in their first season in the USL Championship. Currently, they are in 15th place of the Eastern Conference with a total of 9 points. This will be their first-ever appearance in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
The winner of the match will advance to the third round, which will begin on May 29. The match will be will be live-tweeted from the @RedBullsAcademy Twitter handle.
Following the match, NYRB U-23’s will begin USL League Two action with a home match against Evergreen F.C. on May 18, with kick-off set for 7 p.m. ET.
