The New York Red Bulls fielded a total of 21 teams in the RDS Winter Showcase and won 18 championships. The remaining three teams finished either as a runner up or in third place, with at least one team from each age group claiming a title.
Three Red Bulls RDS teams also won the NYCFC Coliseum Cup and will be honored on field at Yankee Stadium in a victory parade.
The RDS Winter Showcase, which lasted from late January to mid-March, featured girls teams ages U-10 to U-15 and boys teams ages U-8 to U-13. The Red Bulls had up to three teams in some age groups due to the depth of the talent pool in some age groups.
All players were identified through participation in the RDS and were recommended to play in the Showcase tournament by RDS coaches. As supplementary showcase teams, they play in only one tournament each and then disband so as not to conflict with existing team commitments.
All teams play 5 v 5 tournaments at the Soccer Coliseum in Teaneck, N.J. The small-sided tournaments promote the importance of rotating playing positions, ensuring that players learn the demands of the game in every position. Small squads ensure balanced playing time with all players in the thick of the action at all times.
Winter showcase performances are used as a means of identifying candidates for the summer showcase teams, which are a more comprehensive select experience, but still occur in off-seasons to avoid conflicts. The next opportunity to earn selection for showcase teams is the eight-week Spring RDS, or weeklong summer camps, which are now open for registration.
