EAST HANOVER, N.J. (March 15, 2022) – New York Red Bulls Academy will host NYCFC Academy in the first New York Academy Derby of the year on Friday, March 25 at Red Bulls Training Facility, the club announced today.
The New York Academy Derby will put both club U-15’s and U-17’s against each other with the winner of the U-17’s match being presented the New York Academy Derby Trophy.
“This was an exciting event for our Academy last year with the livestream and the trophy, it puts something on the line for the players and it provides a great environment for both the players and staff,” Academy Director Sean McCafferty said.
The event will take place on Friday, March 25 at Red Bulls Training Facility, with the U-15’s kicking off at 5 p.m. ET and the U-17’s starting shortly after at 7:15 p.m. ET. There will be a livestream available on newyorkredbulls.com that will stream both matches of the event.
New York hosted the first ever Academy Derby last May, which saw both Red Bulls Academy come away with victories over NYCFC Academy. The U-15’s won, 2-0, while the U-17’s won, 3-1, and claimed the New York Academy Derby. In the most recent edition of the Derby, NYCFC won the U-17’s match and currently have possession of the trophy.
