EDISON, N.J. – New York Red Bulls Director of Training Programs Dave Jervis and members of the front office were among more than 500 guests at the NJ Youth Soccer 28th Annual Awards Dinner on Jan. 8, 2016, to celebrate another successful year for the Olympic Development Program (ODP).
“It was great to attend an event that focused on celebrating the accomplishments of youth soccer volunteers and the thousands of players throughout New Jersey,” said Jervis. “The Red Bulls are a proud partner of NJYS and together through our programming we are able to develop, engage and inspire the youth soccer community.”
The event was hosted by NJYS ODP graduates Steve Jolley and Rachel Breton. Jolley, a former defender for the MetroStars and Red Bulls, was an honoree in the Red Bulls’ Best 20 in 20 and currently works as a color commentator for Red Bulls Radio and Sirius XM broadcasts. Breton is currently a member of Sky Blue FC and starred on state, regional and interregional teams while playing with NJYS.
“NJ Youth Soccer provides the structure for more than 150,000 children to play soccer in urban, suburban and rural locations throughout our state,” said President of NJ Youth Soccer Roy Squillario. “The majority of our leadership - coaches, trainers, administrators - are comprised of volunteers who dedicate many hours of their time to make this organization a success.”
The evening acknowledged many of the state’s boys and girls U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship Series, Presidents Cup team champions as well as players selected for the U.S. Youth Soccer Region I ODP pool team. The following honorees were presented with awards for their individual contributions:
- Bob McNulty Coaches of the Year: Michael Mascone, Middletown Soccer Club
- Recreation Coach of the Year: Jacquelynn Hart, Barrington Soccer Club
- TOPSoccer Volunteers of the Year: Meghan Donovan and Dillon Wintz
- Liesel Krehan Volunteer of the Year: Troy Memis and Kevin Dearman
- Youth Referees of the Year: Carlos Gonzalez Escobar and Magda Zwierzchowski
- Allan Sinclair Memorial Scholarship: Jatzia Gilzean-Colon and Ryan Foley
- Jeanine Willis Scholarship: Amy Beringer and Denilson Olivera
- Brett Fenster Memorial Scholarship: Abigail Lewis
