The New York Red Bulls have unveiled a new skills based 7 v 7 tournament for Under-10 boys and girls youth teams, Red Generation Cup. The tournament is free to enter and each of the five boys and girls teams that qualify for the finals will receive an invitation to be recognized at a Red Bulls home game.
This year, boys and girls born between Aug. 1, 2005, and July 31, 2006, are eligible to enter. To gain entry to the tournament, teams will be invited to showcase their skills at regional qualifying events, located at the Red Bulls Training Facility in Hanover, N.J. and Peter Collins Soccer Park in Long Island, N.Y.
“This tournament is focused on the importance of developing technical creative and confident players as opposed to winning at all costs,” Senior Director of Training Programs Dave Jervis said. “The Red Bulls approach is to help inspire passion in the next generation of young players, through this unique tournament concept we hope to give individual players the opportunity to showcase their skills in a fun and challenge environment.”
At qualifying events, players from each team will take part in the Red Bulls Skills Challenge, which is comprised of five simply structured challenges that measure technical ability. The top five boys and girls teams with the highest collective scores will advance to the Red Generation Cup, which will be held at the Red Bulls Training Facility on June 26, 2016.
Tournament qualifying dates are as follows and teams will be able to sign up for a specific one-hour time slot to play:
- SUNDAY, APRIL 17: Peter Collins Soccer Park, Long Island, N.Y., 2-4 p.m.
- SATURDAY, APRIL 30: Red Bulls Training Facility, Hanover, N.J., 3-7 p.m.
