Get to know who the Red Bulls will be playing in their upcoming matchup:

How they’re doing

After failing to make the playoffs in 2021, Columbus are now in a battle to be one of the seven teams in the Eastern Conference still standing after the regular season.

At 42 points through 31 matches, the Crew currently sit outside the playoff spots. They are one of five clubs currently within six points of each other, battling it out for three playoff spots.

The 2022 season has been all about draws for Columbus. 15 of their 32 MLS matches have ended in a stalemate, including six of their last eight.

Head-to-Head History

As two original members of MLS, New York and Columbus have had more than their fair share of encounters.

With 88 matchups between the two across all competitions, Columbus has the third most appearances against New York in club history.

Overall, Columbus has the slight edge in the series with a 39-36-13 record.

Last time out, the Crew were able to steal a point from Red Bull Arena when Darlington Nagbe scored in the 90+5 minute to equalize.

In New York’s last trip to Columbus, a Sean Nealis winner earned the Red Bulls all three points.

Player to Watch- Midfielder Lucas Zelarayán

The Crew got a boost when Colombian attacker Cucho Hernández, a record signing from Watford, arrived during the summer transfer window.

With Cucho suspended for the match against New York, Zelarayán will have to step up for Columbus in a must-win game.

Zelarayán leads the team with nine goals, but his 11 assists have really made the difference for the Crew this season.

He’s had an on-target scoring attempt in each of his last 11 appearances.
