Player to Watch: Midfielder Lucas Zelarayán

Recently, Zelarayán was called up to Armenia’s national team for the FIFA international window, and he has been named to the 2023 MLS All-Star roster.
A contender for AT&T’s Goal of the Year, Zelarayán stunned fans by scoring a goal from beyond the midfield line. The goal came in the 93rd minute of the Crew’s match with Chicago Fire FC in June and gave Columbus the 2-1 win. The stunt also earned Zelarayán MLS Goal of the Matchday.
Since being acquired by the Crew in late 2019, Zelarayán has been an offensive leader for Columbus, consistently scoring goals and helping create chances on the attacking end of the pitch.
