Get to know who the Red Bulls will be playing in their upcoming match with The Other Side:

How They’re Doing

Real Salt Lake currently sits in fourth place out West with 34 points, only four points behind conference-leading St. Louis City SC.

The Claret-and-Cobalt have been on a hot streak as of late, going unbeaten in their last eight matches. During the streak, RSL has earned five wins and three draws, highlighted by a commanding 3-1 win over St. Louis, as well as 2-1 victories against Austin FC and D.C. United.

Most recently, Real Salt Lake earned a comeback 2-2 draw at Sporting Kansas City. After facing a two-goal deficit at halftime, second-half substitutes Chicho Arango and Anderson Julio sent the ball to the back of the net to earn one point for their club.

Unlike most other clubs, RSL has not found the same success at home as on the road. The team is just 3-4-4 at America First Field, compared to its 6-3-3 road record. However, Salt Lake has not lost at home since May 31, so things may be turning around for the Claret-and-Cobalt.

Head-to-Head History

Saturday will be the 25th all-time matchup between New York and Real Salt Lake.

The lifetime series between the Red Bulls and the Claret-and-Cobalt has been evenly split between clubs, both having earned seven wins. The teams have also drawn 10 times.

This weekend’s match will snap a two-season hiatus that the clubs have not faced one another. Salt Lake and New York have not matched up since March 7, 2020, when the teams played to a 1-1 draw.

Prior to that, the Red Bulls stomped RSL, 4-0, on June 1, 2019. In the match, New York midfielder Omir Fernandez scored his second career goal in an MLS regular season match.

With each club having a 7-7-10 record in the series, both will be looking to edge the other and add that eighth win to their tally.

Player to Watch: Forward Anderson Julio

Salt Lake forward Anderson Julio has been a spark off the bench for the Claret-and-Cobalt. The Pimampiro, Ecuador native has four goals in 2023, tied for second most on the team.

Julio has netted three goals in the club’s last three games, all off the bench. The tallies contribute to his 15 career goals, with 12 of them coming off the bench.
