What started out as a quiet Tuesday in Orlando turned into a rather eventful day for the New York Red Bulls.
The club acquired Brazilian attacker Felipe and the all-important top spot in the MLS Allocation Ranking from Montreal, but had to say good bye to stalwart midfielder Eric
Alexander and Cameroonian international Ambroise Oyongo in the process.
Despite the quick news of being traded, Alexander tweeted love for the Red Bull faithful as his central midfield teammate Dax McCarty wished him well on his way to Montreal:
Center Back Depth Addressed and what’s next?
Earlier on Tuesday I wrote about the team’s need to add a few center backs to the roster. Tuesday afternoon, a trio came through as the club announced the signings of Frenchman Ronald Zubar, Brooklyn product Andrew Jean-Baptiste as well as the re-signing of French defender Damien Perrinelle.
Marsch spoke most highly of Zubar on Tuesday’s conference call as the team waits for the former Ajaccio man to receive his P-1 visa before joining the team in Orlando.
“Physically, first off all that he can meet the demands of what this league is. His experience, of different clubs he’s played for, coaches he’s played for, the levels of the game he’s been around, he’s not only physically be good in this league but tactically, his level of intelligence and level of play, I think he’s really going to help out.”
The center back depth will now allow Marsch and Co. to go about finding another piece to go along with newly-named Designated Player Bradley Wright-Phillips up top.
“Once we add [Zubar] we’ll have rounded out our team really well. The only other potential piece is figuring out how to complement Bradley Wright-Phillips up top, or at times if he’s not available, that we’re confident and always can supplement that role as well. “
Matt Miazga plays for RB Leipzig
Not long after arriving for a training stint with Red Bull Leipzig in Qatar, center back Matt Miazga saw action in a friendly Tuesday vs. Red Bull Salzburg.
The Homegrown defender picked up what was reported to be a minor knock in the match. Though Marsch hadn’t yet spoken to his counterpart at RB Leipzig about the extent of the injury, he said that he didn’t think it was anything serious.
Post-game Miazga followed Marsch and Sporting Director Ali Curtis by taking a photo with Red Bull Leipzig and U.S. international forward Terrence Boyd:
