New York notches another win

New York Red Bulls II extended its unbeaten streak to five games with a win against Wilmington Hammerheads FC at Legion Stadium, 1-0. Dan Metzger scored the game-winner, his first professional goal, in the 59th minute to seal the victory for New York.

New York’s current five-game unbeaten streak is the longest in club history.

Top of the Power Rankings

With the team’s third win of the season on Friday, Red Bulls II retained its top spot in the USL Power Rankings for week five. NYRB II is 3-0-2 with 11 points entering this weekend’s game against Charlotte.

New York enters week six of the season with a +7 goal differential, the best in USL. The club currently stands in second place of the Eastern Conference, behind only Louisville City FC. NYRB II is the only undefeated team remaining in the conference, and one of three unbeaten teams in the league (LA Galaxy II, Vancouver Whitecaps 2).

Dan Metzger named to USL Team of the Week

Midfielder Dan Metzger was named to the week five USL Team of the Week for his performance against Wilmington Hammerheads FC.

Metzger scored his first professional goal, the game-winner, to earn New York its third win of the season. The Red Bulls academy product, playing in his fourth game of the season, has logged 290 minutes and has been a key contributor in New York’s midfield this season.

Next Up: Charlotte Independence

For the second consecutive week, Red Bulls II will face the third place team in the Eastern Conference. Charlotte Independence climbed into third with a win last weekend against Richmond Kickers, 3-2.

Charlotte enters the match with a 3-2-0 record and back-to-back wins. This will be the Independence’s second away game of the season after losing its only road match this season against FC Cincinnati.

Midfielder Jorge Herrera leads the team in points with two goals and two assists while Caleb Calvert, a 19-year-old forward on loan from Charlotte’s MLS affiliate Colorado Rapids, has also scored twice this season.
