The New York Red Bulls (FINALLY) return to action this weekend with a trip to D.C. after their second bye week of the young 2015 season. The Red Bulls remain in second place,two points behind D.C., despite playing one less game than the Black and Red.
The Red Bulls are riding high, with head coach Jesse Marsch getting the team off to its best start since 2007 with seven points through three games, including four points in two early season road games in Kansas City and Columbus. The home win came over D.C., a resounding 2-0 win with goals from Bradley Wright-Phillips and Lloyd Sam.
The top two teams in the East will face off at 7 p.m. on Saturday at RFK Stadium in Washington (TV: MSG2).
Red Bulls to host Autism Awareness Night
The next Red Bulls home game on Friday, April 17 will be Autism Awareness Night. Fans are encouraged to purchase their tickets for the game against San Jose Earthquakes using special promo codes to donate a portion of the ticket price to their choice of three Autism Awareness charities. BBNY kick off Youth Soccer Festival Series this weekend
On Sunday, the New York Red Bulls and their partners, HUMC, will kick off a series of youth soccer festivals across New York and New Jersey. The first event will take place on Long Island, in partnership with the Long Island Junior Soccer League. The free event will offer youths the opportunity to participate in skills challenges, play 3v3 soccer with their friends, interact with certified Red Bulls youth soccer coaches, and even meet some New York Red Bulls players. New York Red Bulls II defeat Toronto FC II 4-1 for first USL victory
The New York Red Bulls II won their first match in club history on Saturday when they knocked off Toronto FC II at Red Bull Arena, 4-1. Red Bulls first team players, on loan from MLS, dominated the match from start to finish with forward Anatole Abang opening the scoring in the 8th minute. Defender Shawn McLaws finished off the eventual game-winner in the 39th minute after beating his man and cutting a shot across the face of goal. NYRB II continued the goal scoring in the second half when Marius Obekop confidently placed his penalty kick into the top right corner in the 75th minute. Leo Stolz then finished off a cross in the 86th minute to round out the scoring.
NYRB II are back in action this Sunday, again at Red Bull Arena, when they take on New York City FC affiliate Wilmington Hammerheads FC at 4 p.m. Tickets are still available for Sunday’s game
Red Bulls U-16s win Generation adidas Cup
The Red Bulls Under-16 academy team beat Colombian side Independiente Medellin 2-1 in overtime to capture the 2015 Generation Adidas U-17 Premier Division Cup on Saturday at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas. The GA Cup brings together top club teams from the United States and abroad. After advancing through group play last Fall, the Red Bulls battled their way to the finals after winning their group with a dramatic shootout win over Brazilian side Sporting Recife, and then knocked off LA Galaxy 1-0 in the semifinal match. After playing to a 1-1 draw in the final, the Red Bulls found a breakthrough four minutes into overtime when Ryan Mingachos curled a first-time shot into the top-left corner.
