Red Bulls rally for road point

Second half goals from Damien Perrinelle and Lloyd Sam salvaged a hard-fought point on the road for the Red Bulls as New York drew 2-2 with D.C. United on Saturday night at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C. Perry Kitchen struck twice to put D.C. up 2-0, including a strike from the top of the box in the 67th minute. The Red Bulls responded quickly, with Perrinelle’s first MLS goal off of a corner kick just a minute later.

The goal revitalized the Red Bulls, and New York had the better of the chances for the remainder of the game. Sacha Kljestan earned a free kick from 25 yards out in the 89th minute, and then put a dipping shot in front of D.C. goalkeeper Bill Hamid, who was unable to cleanly catch the ball. Sam followed the play and put home the rebound in the 90th minute for his third goal of the season to tie the game, 2-2.

Sam named to MLS Team of the Week

Red Bulls winger Lloyd Sam has been named to the MLS Team of the Week following his 90th minute heroics in the Red Bulls 2-2 tie with D.C. United on Saturday. Sam’s goal helped New York remain undefeated through four games to start the year.

The Englishman’s red-hot start has paced the Red Bulls to a 2-0-2 record, including five points in three tough road games. New York now returns home for three straight at Red Bull Arena, beginning with a Friday night clash against San Jose on April 17th.

Home Sweet Harrison

After taking their talents on the road for three of the first four games of the MLS season, the Red Bulls will return home to Red Bull Arena for a three game home stand, starting this Friday against the San Jose Earthquakes on Autism Awareness Night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.

The Red Bulls will follow that with a home matchup against Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday 4/26 at 5:00 p.m. ET, and a mid-week clash against Colorado Rapids at 7:30 p.m. ET. Both contests will be at RBA with the games being broadcasted on ESPN2 and MSG respectively.

New York is tied for the best home record in MLS since 2012, going 33-7-12 since the start of that season. Their 111 points earned at home is on par with the LA Galaxy (34-9-9), and ahead of Real Salt Lake and Seattle Sounders FC, each with 110.
