HARRISON, N.J. (March 26, 2016) – The New York Red Bulls have loaned seven players to New York Red Bulls II of the United Soccer League (USL) ahead of the NYRB II season-opener this afternoon, the club announced today.
Tyler Adams, Brandon Allen, Zach Carroll, Sean Davis, Derrick Etienne, Jr., Ryan Meara and Alex Muyl have been loaned to the Red Bulls’ USL affiliate, which opens the season today with a match against Toronto FC II at Red Bull Arena at 3 p.m.
Per the Right of Recall incorporated into the loan agreements, the New York Red Bulls (MLS) retain the right to recall the players at any point during the MLS regular season, subject to MLS roster compliance guidelines.
Adams, a native of Wappingers Falls, N.Y., returns to NYRB II after spending a full season with the club in 2015. Prior to joining the first team, the midfielder was signed as NYRB II’s first ever signing at 16-years-old. He appeared in 11 games with Red Bulls II, making nine starts, and played more than 800 minutes.
Davis, a midfielder from Holmdel, N.J., has played in two out of three MLS matches for the first team this season. In 2015, the midfielder started and played five regular season games for NYRB II, tallying two assists. Davis also made 14 appearances, including four starts, and recorded one assist in MLS play as a rookie.
Homegrown Players Allen and Muyl join NYRB II after signing with the first team in December 2015 from Georgetown. Allen set a program record in college, scoring 50 career goals in four years with the Hoyas and was a finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy, the highest individual honor in college soccer. Muyl, who played three seasons at Georgetown, led the team in assists all three years.
Derrick Etienne Jr., a native of Paterson, N.J., returns to NYRB II after spending the first half of the 2015 USL season with the club as an academy player. Etienne Jr. made 10 starts, totaling three goals and three assists before departing for his freshman season at University of Virginia. Following an impressive college season, Etienne Jr. signed a Homegrown Player deal with the first team in December 2015.
Carroll, a rookie out of Michigan State University, was selected in the second round (38th overall) in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft. The defender played 39 games for the Spartans, starting 38, and recorded seven goals and four assists over his junior and senior seasons. Carroll earned First Team All-Big Ten honors and was named to the NSCAA Second Team All-Midwest Region as a senior.
Goalkeeper and veteran Meara is entering his fifth professional season after being drafted by New York in the second round (31st overall) of the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. In 2015, the native of Crestwood, N.Y., spent the season on loan with NYC FC. He played one MLS game against Chicago Fire on April 24, and made six saves.
