HARRISON, N.J. (March 6, 2020) – New York Red Bulls II have signed midfielder Samad Bounthong to a USL Championship contract, the club announced today.
Bounthong, 22, was earned First Team All-MAAC honors twice in his four years at Marist College, during his junior and senior years. He started 71 of the 72 games he played for the Red Foxes, scoring 14 goals and 11 assists during his career.
“Samad is an academy player that came on our radar late in his college career at Marist,” Head Coach John Wolyniec said. “He came into preseason and has continued to improve and we feel he can really develop during the year. I am excited to see where he can take it.”
The Seattle, Washington native was also named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team as a Freshman in 2016. Bounthong was on the Red Bulls U-18’s team during the 2015-2016 season, where he started in 14 of 23 games, and scored 11 goals.
Bounthong participated in NYRB II preseason camps in East Hanover, New Jersey and Richmond Virginia. He played and started in all four exhibition matches.
