- NYRB II returned to the pitch for the first regular season match in professional sports played in the Metro area since March on Friday night, hosting Hartford Athletic at Red Bull Arena. NYRB II fell, 1-0 on a first half goal.
- The match was Futures Night, with NYRB II wearing special limited-edition kits that featured the names of Red Bulls youth players embroidered into the fabric. The kits will be auctioned off, with proceeds benefitting Wings of Life.
- Hartford scored in the 12th minute, with Ever Guzman able to run onto a long punt from ‘keeper Parfait Mandanda that fell between the Red Bulls backline and ‘keeper Wallis Lapsley.
- Appropriate for Futures Night, eight players with ties to Red Bulls academy saw the field, including Red Bulls Academy signee Jake LaCava and current academy players Yaya Toure and Daniel Edelman. Red Bulls Regional Development School graduate Kyle Zajec captained the team on the night.
- Six players made their professional debuts, including LaCava, Toure and Edelman.
- 2020 draft picks Cherif Dieye and Deri Corfe also saw their first professional minutes in the match.
- NYRB II is now 0-2-0 in 2020, having fallen at Tampa Bay in the March opener prior to the suspension of the USL season.
- NYRB II is next on the road to take on Philadelphia Union II on Wednesday, July 22 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
