After graduating from Red Bulls Academy, forward Jake Lacava signed his first professional contract with New York Red Bulls II on July 3.
In his rookie season, Lacava appeared in every match after the return to play. He started ten matches and recorded 909 minutes in action.
The New Milford, Connecticut native scored five goals, which was second in the club, and tallied three assists during the year. He led the team in shots (28), shots on target (17), and left footed goals (3).
He made his first professional start against Philadelphia Union II on July 22. Lacava recorded his first multi-assist match, with his final one finding current U-19 player Daniel Edelman for the game-winning goal to secure three points for the club.
Later on, in the year, he would score his first professional goal and add another in the same match against Loudoun United FC on August 29. His first goal was off a through ball from current New York Red Bulls midfielder Caden Clark, which Lacava squared and slotted in the upper corner. He then had a solo effort that earned a brace and the win against Loudoun.
In the final five matches of the season, Lacava earned two more goals and another assist to finish the season. The 19-year-old showed his qualities this season especially, coming in right after the return to play was announced. He finished in the top three of the four major categories, which includes goals, assists, shots, and chances created.
