The New York Red Bulls currently have two players loaned out to other clubs for the 2022 season. Find out how they’re faring and what kind of impact they’re making at clubs across the world.
Jake LaCava (Tampa Bay Rowdies)
Starting in all five of the club’s matches in June, LaCava scored in a victory over Pittsburgh as the Rowdies went unbeaten with three wins.
In his most recent outing, LaCava was the star of the match in a 2-0 victory over Memphis 901, where he scored both goals.
The 21-year-old out of the Red Bulls Academy leads the team with ten goals and has added three assists across all competitions. He has appeared in all 18 of Tampa Bay’s USL Championship games with 15 starts. The forward also played in both of the team’s U.S. Open Cup games, scoring in the opener against The Village SC.
“When you come on loan, it’s easy to think you’re not part of it the club\], but he’s made himself part of it. The boys have made him part of it,” [Rowdies head coach Neill Collins told Fox 13 Tampa Bay. “And then on the field, I actually think that the system suits him.”
Omar Sowe (Breidablik Kópavogur)
Sowe earned two more substitute appearances in June, continuing a successful first season abroad.
The forward appeared in Breidablik’s 3-2 Icelandic Cup victory on June 27 over Íþróttabandalag Akraness to advance to the quarterfinals. He provided the pass on the club’s 90th minute game-winning goal, just eight minutes after stepping on the pitch.
Breidablik is atop Besta deild karla, Iceland’s top division, after a 4-0 win in its latest league match over Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur on June 22.
In 10 appearances across all competitions in 2022, Sowe has scored twice. He has earned two starts, with one goal coming during a first XI appearance in the Icelandic Cup and the other goal a game-winner as a late second half sub.
Sowe and Breidablik will start their quest for a European trophy on Thursday as they enter the first qualifying round for the Europa Conference League.
The team qualified for the European tournament because of their second place league finish last season. They will take on Andorran side UE Santa Coloma.
