Ryan Meara will start in goal for the New York Red Bulls as they take on D.C. United in the Round of 32 of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
This will be the 25th time the Red Bulls have played in the Open Cup in franchise history. New York have posted an 16-8-0 in opening round matches. Since 2010, the Red Bulls have recorded an 11-1-2 home record in Open Cup play. Defender Cameron Harper tallied two assists in three Open Cup appearances last season.
Tom Barlow starts up top, with Cristian Cásseres Jr. captaining the side and starting in the midfield.
Dru Yearwood, Daniel Edelman, Peter Stroud, Cameron Harper and Omir Fernandez all get the nod at MSU Soccer Park. John Tolkin, Hassan Ndam and Andrés Reyes start along the backline.
This will be the second-straight year that New York has played D.C. United in the Round of 32 in the Open Cup. The Red Bulls defeated D.C. United, 3-0, at Audi Field last season. Defender John Tolkin and midfielder Luquinhas both scored in the match.
Interim Head Coach Troy Lesesne will have Cory Burke, Elias Manoel, Wiki Carmon, Ronald Donkor, Amos Shapiro-Thompson and Dylan Nealis available off the bench. Carlos Coronel will serve as backup goalkeeper. Shapiro-Thompson was signed to a short-term call up for the match.
