EAST HANOVER, N.J. (February 26, 2022) – New York Red Bulls II defeated Stony Brook University, 3-0, on Saturday, February 26 at Red Bulls Training Facility.

“It was a really good foundation for the season looking ahead,” said Head Coach Gary Lewis. “Obviously, a lot of good work done by Sammy [Castellanos], Ibra [Sekagya], and the rest of the team and coaching team.”

New York opened the scoring in the fifth minute, as midfielder Jesús Castellano placed the ball in the far bottom corner of the net off a feed from forward Omar Sowe. Ten minutes later, trialist midfielder John Murphy doubled New York’s advantage off a shot from 20 yards out.

The home side scored their third goal of the match right before the half, as Sowe scored on a breakaway following a pass from Murphy. New York would not relinquish that three-goal advantage the rest of the way.

“We’re just trying to get the principles embedded in, we want to see the identity and behaviors now on a regular basis,” Lewis said. “As part of our coaching sessions, that’s what the preparation is all about. Then in the games, we want to see identity and behaviors all the way through, consistency within our performances and consistency within training.”

With the victory, New York improved to 1-0-1 during the 2022 preseason. The club will host West Chester United SC on Tuesday, March 1, at Red Bulls Training Facility. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET, with coverage available on the club’s social media channels.
