New York Red Bulls Re-Sign Ryan Meara to an MLS Contract

Ryan Meara

HARRISON, N.J. (December 12, 2016) – The New York Red Bulls have re-signed goalkeeper Ryan Meara to an MLS contract, the club announced today. Meara, the third-longest tenured player on the current roster, signed a new multi-year deal after his contract expired at the end of 2016.
Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Meara, a native of Crestwood, N.Y., played 21 regular season games on loan with NYRB II in 2016, allowing just 16 goals as part of a record-setting year for the club’s USL affiliate. Meara also played every minute of the playoffs, and made crucial saves on penalty kicks during both the conference semifinal and conference final rounds to help NYRB II win its first USL Championship.

He also appeared in Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League matches last season, posting a shutout in a 3-0 group stage win over Antigua GFC that proved crucial to New York’s advancing to the tournament’s quarterfinals for the first time.
New York selected Meara in the second round of the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. He started 18 MLS games as a rookie before injury ended his season.
The New York Red Bulls open the 2017 campaign with Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League action. New York will host the first leg of a home-and-home series with the Vancouver Whitecaps on February 22 at Red Bull Arena.
