The New York Red Bulls are set to face Atlantic Cup rivals D.C. United in the Conference Semifinals on Sunday after a dramatic 2-1 victory against defending champions Sporting KC.
Here are some numbers to know ahead of the first leg of the Conference Semifinal.
- 0 – The New York Red Bulls are undefeated since 2012 against D.C. United in games played at Red Bull Arena (3-0-1). In their last home match against D.C., Lloyd Sam scored a stoppage time goal to defeat their rivals 1-0 on September 10.
- 4 – Bradley Wright-Phillips has scored four goals in his last two matches. His two goals on Thursday in the 77th and 90th minute gives him three goals in as many playoff games and is his first game winning goal in his MLS Cup Playoffs career.
- 20 – There were 20 combined fouls, including one red card for Fabian Espindola, in the last meeting between New York and D.C. Yellow cards were given to Roy Miller and Armando, while a chippy incident between the longtime rivals led to disciplinary action against Roy Miller, Sean Franklin, Davy Arnaud, and D.C. head coach Ben Olsen.
- 25 – Peguy Luyindula was a substitute in Thursday’s Knockout round victory and only needed 25 minutes on the pitch to assist on both of Bradley Wright-Phillips’ goals. Thierry Henry also assisted BWP’s first, while substitute Ambroise Oyongo provided an assist on the game winner.
- 227 – D.C. United will make the 227 mile road trip to Red Bull Arena for a playoff edition of the Atlantic Cup. Regardless of the result, the second leg of the Conference Semifinals will be played Saturday November 8, and this will be the first year MLS will install the away goals rule.
