CHICAGO (February 24, 2015) - The U.S Under-17 Men's National Team named two New York Red Bulls Academy players to their 20-man roster earlier today in preparation for the 2015 CONCACAF U-17 Championships in Honduras.
Head coach Richie Williams selected defenders Tyler Adams and Matt Olosunde (pictured above in Bradenton at IMG Academy) to be a part of the squad as they begin their Group A play against Cuba this Friday. Joining those two countries in the group are Guatemala, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago and host side Honduras.
Four countries from the CONCACAF region will directly qualify for the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile this fall. The winners of Group A and B automatically advance while the second and third place teams from each group advance to a playoff for the final two spots.
Both Olosunde and Adams have been fixtures in the team after both saw action in USA's latest competition at the Nike International Friendlies last November in Lakewood Ranch, Florida. The US finished runner-up to Brazil in the tournament after winning the Friendlies the year before.
The two Red Bull defenders were then invited by Williams to train in residency with the U-17 program at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. The pair were also special guests at Red Bull first team training on Monday as head coach Jesse Marsch and the Red Bulls first team wished them good luck before they departed for Honduras this morning.
The U-17s have had four international matches in Florida this month, winning two against Bermuda and splitting two matches against Panama.
The match against Cuba will be shown this Friday live on FOX Sports 2 and Univision Deportes at 6 p.m. ET.
