Red Bull U18’s (5) vs. PA Classics (5)
Saturday, Nov. 1, Red Bulls Training Facility (Hanover, NJ)
The Red Bulls settled for a draw with PA Classics after leading 5-1 late in the game. PA Classics took an early lead in the 8th minute after a corner kick led to a loose ball being tapped in. It took a while for the Red Bulls to find any rhythm in the game. In the 29th minute, Derrick Ettiene’s corner found Kyle Zajec, who blasted a shot into the upper left corner of the goal. The Red Bulls also connected for two late goals before the half. In the 44th minute, forward Cameron Harr scored his 7th goal of the season off a feed from Etienne. Seconds later, the Red Bulls made the score 3-1 when forward Ethan Lochner crossed to the back post for Chris Flores to finish.
The Red Bulls started the second half the way they finished the first, scoring two goals in a span of three minutes. In the 48th minute, Lochner received a pass from Flores inside the penalty box and blasted a left-footed shot inside the near post. In the 51st minute, Harr scored his second of the game, and team-leading eighth goal of the season, when he tapped in a corner kick from Etienne at the back post.
The visitors completely flipped the script in the last 20 minutes with four goals of their own, including two from set pieces.
“Considering the amount of players that we had out today, we were very happy to be up 5-1. However, we are disappointed to lose a 5-1 lead that late in the game. We lacked a bit of leadership in the back without any recognized center back, and we made some poor decisions late in the game to not close it out,” said U-18 coach Paul O’Donnell.
