HARRISON, N.J. (September 5, 2023) – New York Red Bulls goalkeeper Carlos Coronel has been selected to the Paraguayan National Team roster for their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. This will be Coronel’s first camp with Paraguay and he will be seeking his first career international cap.
Coronel, 26, is in his third season with the New York Red Bulls, where he has started and played in 93 MLS matches in goal. He has recorded 201 saves over that timespan, while earning 27 shutouts, which ranks second in franchise history only behind Luis Robles. In his first season with the club, he recorded 13 shutouts, which was tied for first in MLS in that season and was tied for second best in a single season in franchise history.
The Paraguayan goalkeeper has also recorded 35 MLS wins in a Red Bulls uniform, which is only three shy of passing Tim Howard for third place in franchise history.
Coronel and Paraguay will begin their quest to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. During this window, Paraguay will face off against two teams, first, they will battle Peru on Thursday, September 7 and then they will face off against Venezuela on Tuesday, September 12.
