For the first time in his MLS career, Luquinhas has been selected as the MLS Player of the Week.
After his performance in a 2-0 victory over Toronto FC on Saturday, which included his sixth goal for New York across all competitions, the Brazilian midfielder was voted as the best player in MLS for the week.
Since his first appearance for New York against Minnesota United on March 14, Luquinhas has been a spark plug for the Red Bulls offense.
In 17 total appearances across all competitions, he has six goals and five assists.
He has been featured three times on the MLS Team of the Week, but this is his first time being featured as the Player of the Week.
Last time New York and Toronto faced off this season, Lewis Morgan was named the MLS Week 2 Player of the Week after netting a first half hat trick against the Reds in Toronto.
Luquinhas was also nominated for Player of the Week after his brace against D.C. United on May 29.
