New York Red Bulls defender John Tolkin has been named to the United State’s Men’s National Team roster for their upcoming January camp in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the federation announced today.
Tolkin, 22, finished his fifth season with the Red Bulls, where he made 28 MLS appearances and recorded two goals and one assist. He tallied the game-winning assist in the 2024 Eastern Conference Final to help lead the Red Bulls to their first-ever Eastern Conference Championship. Tolkin registered his 17th career assist across all competitions, which is the most by a defender in franchise history. The defender has made 114 career MLS appearances for the Red Bulls, where he has logged 9,506 minutes played and has recorded seven goals and 12 assists.
The Chatham, N.J. native has earned his fourth call-up to a United States National Team roster and his first since January 2024. Tolkin has made four career appearances for the United States and has logged 214 minutes played. He played for the United States U-23 at the 2024 Summer Olympics, where he made four appearances. Tolkin became the sixth player in franchise history to be named to the United States Olympic team as an active member of the club.
Tolkin and the United States will participate in an 11-day training camp and then play two international friendlies. They will first face off against Venezuela on Saturday, January 18 at Chase Stadium with kickoff set for 3 p.m. ET. Their second match will be against Costa Rica on Wednesday, January 22 at Inter&Co Stadium with kickoff set for 7 p.m. ET. Coverage for both matches will be on TNT, Universo, Max, Peacock, and Futbol de Primera Radio.
